Just Memories

Remember the fallen: we must,
Even as we are filled with disgust
For recent abuses.
The simpler truth is
We remember when war could be just.

Your responsibility?

To Mr. Rumsfeld:

It was clear, from the very first day,
You'd be fighting the war your own way.
The Geneva Convention
Was ne'er your intention,
So why would the soldiers obey?

When you act toward the world like its cop,
The buck has but one place to stop.
We can only construe
That, by acts "of a few,"
You meant acts of the few at the top.

Brown out

Fifty years since the Court took the view
That "separate but equal" was through.
It was only a tool,
Not the cure for your school.
So, don't ask, "What can 'Brown' do for you?"

Do the pictures tell a story?

Who really is to blame?

When you study the look on each guard's face
You wonder who's also been scarred. Place
That soldier's young mind
In those horrors, unkind,
And they're caught 'tween Iraq and a hard place.

Four more years?

When the captors can play fast and loose
With the rules, well, there's just no excuse;
But what Bush has created
Can't be overrated

All the President's Plans

(To Mr. Bush:)

Mr. Woodward gives us the impression
That it wasn't Iraqi aggression;
But, from your first day,
The one thing in play
Was your clear and apparent obsession.

The Letter

Office of the Secretary
Department of Defense
1000 Defense Pentagon
Washington, DC 20301-1000
April __, 2004

Dear Mrs. _________;

The message, I guess you suspect,
That your son won't be home, is correct.
Outside of Fallujah,
His squad met a huge
Attack that we did not expect.

Sincerely,

Donald H. Rumsfeld

A Brief Comment

Don't you think our Commander-in-Chief's
Lack of knowledge defies all beliefs?
So if more P.D.B.'s

Blog from the Bog

The Savant has been looking for a more immediate method of publishing his semi-weekly rants on the news and the other nonsense that surrounds him. And, lo and behold, he discovers the blog! Yes, he is a little slow on the uptake.

Yet he now realizes that, for the past three years, his website has basically been a weblog, only with a lot more effort. So he now intends to focus primarily on posting to this new blog and only occasionally updating the website. Apologies to all his current fans but he hopes this decision will help him concentrate on his first love, the limerick.

For those unfamiliar with his peculiar brand of commentary, I sugggest you click on the link below to sample some of his past efforts.
