Prized Find

You can keep your hip-hop and your punk.
By comparison, all of that's junk.
#1 with a bullet, sir,
And, now, with a Pulitzer;
Give me jazz by Thelonius Monk.

He has the perfect name for a jazz musician, no?

I LOVE your blog! And I like Thelonius Monk too and am pleased he got a posthumous award.

Pattie, I always liked the way his name rolls off the tongue so I was glad to work it into a limerick. I have to admit that the punster in me wishes I wasn't such a fan so I could work in something about "Thelonius assault." :-)

Annie, thanks again for the kind words. If you're a fan, you must listen to the recently discovered live recording at Carnegie Hall, with Coltrane on sax. (See the Monk link) It's a revelation to hear these two giants together, one in his prime and the other still working out his thing.
